Getting Excited!
This is the first blog that I have ever created! I am very excited! I plan on allowing my fourth grade students to blog this year. Just like the readings suggested, I believe blogging is an excellent way for my students to increase their writing skills. I have already discussed my school's Acceptable Use Policy with the school Computer Guru and things are currently set for GO!! My plans are to post a weekly question relating to that week's reading story. My questions will be thought provoking and require more than a yes or no answer. The students will need to answer my question and then comment/respond to one other classmates' comment. The question will be posted on Monday and they will have until Friday to post their comment and to respond to a classmates' comment. They will be able to access the blog from home, the school's computer lab, and my classroom - allowing them ample time to post their comments. There will be a total of 10 posts per 9 weeks with each post being worth 10 points. I think the students and parents will love it!

Ginger,
ReplyDeleteYour blog is gorgeous. Color goes a long way in drawing in the reader, as we all know. I like blogspot's backgrounds for that reason.
Love the idea of having the questions of the week for a grade. I did not do that last year, I simply wanted the kids to get used to going to my blog but I think after the first 9 weeks, we might start giving points for what they write. Thanks for the idea!

I am as excited as you about this whole blogging thing. I have never used this in my class. I teach 9th grade and I am looking forward to working with my students and co-teachers to make this thing work. I am excited about creating a rubric and assignments.
ReplyDeleteI love the educational purpose of your blog. It reminds me of the literature circles that I used to hold with my fourth grade students. This is like a lit. circle, blog style. I also like your criteria for participation.
ReplyDeleteMy blog is more personal in nature because I am currenlty homeschooling. I have shared a little about my family and have promoted the sport of rowing in my blog. I would like to see the sport grow throughout the state.
Thanks for posting a comment!
